Safety in Dementia

The vast majority of us want to remain in our homes when we get older. I have never talked to a person who told me "Yes, I really want to move into a nursing home". But our system makes it hard for our elderly with dementia to stay at home. #dementia The biggest challenge? Safey. Safely of the person with dementia and at time the safety of the family. Bathrooms and kitchens can pose thousands of potential risks. Stove, knifes, water, cleaning products... the list goes on. BUT- with careful planning many people with dementia can stay at home safely. The University of Colorado | Department of Emergency Medicine has created a website about safety issues that can arise. It is a easy site to access and move around. And easy to understand: https://safetyindementia.org/
