COVID Vaccine Rollout in New York State

Our most vulnerable senior citizens in nursing homes and their care takers are among the first to receive the newly approved COVID vaccine. New York State has opted into in a federal nursing home vaccination program. Under the program, employees of CVS and Walgreens will vaccinate residents and staff in these facilities, much like they do for the flu vaccine. This program began on December 21, 2020. The program began on December 21, 2020. New York has dedicated doses from our initial allotments to this program and will dedicate future allotments to help complete the program and ensure all residents and staff at long-term care facilities are vaccinated. There are 618 nursing homes across the state that are participating in the program.

The priority populations will expand the week of December 28, 2020 to include:

Urgent Care Center employees Individuals administering COVID-19 vaccines, including local health department staff, residents of OASAS facilities...

Next week, they expect to open criteria to ambulatory care health care workers and public-facing public health workers.

It is anticipated that senior citizens and immune suppressed individuals will be in the next wave of vaccinations. The specific time line has not yet been published by New York State yet. Please go to the New York State link for the most updated information on the vaccine program. https://forward.ny.gov/covid-19-vaccine-distribution

It is highly recommended that you call your Doctor to discuss when you will be able to obtain your vaccine. Do not expect the doctor's office to call you! #vaccine, #covidvaccine
