The Thompson House Residential and Rehabilitative Care Facility will be closing down. This facility located in Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, N.Y. has provided care to the elderly and infirm for many years. It is not clear why it is shutting down since there continues to be a growing need for facilities like this. Thompson House opened in 1994 and will be closing on April 12, 2023. 102 staff will be laid off.
This is extremely unfortunate since nursing homes in this region already have a wait list of at least 12 months. This closure will make these waits even longer.
I was contacted by a reporter from the HVPilot for my opinion as a Geriatric Care Manager. I gave him my very honest opinion. I can't help but feel that it is always the elderly and the disabled who have to pay the price.
