"Hawkeye" at 84

Parkinson's Disease impact on elderly
Parkinson's Disease - husband caregiver of wife

I am sure that I am not alone in in my 1970s crush on Alan Alda as Dr. Hawkeye Pierce on the hit TV show "M*A*S*H". Alda like the rest of us has aged, he is now 84 years old. He's been married for 63 years to his wife Arlene. Quite a record for a Hollywood actor.

In 2018 Alda told the world that he had Parkinson's Disease on "CBS This Morning, it was a brave announcement and a message of hope to people with Parkinson's. He has always maintained a positive attitude. He said to the Daily News “... in the very beginning, to be immobilized by fear and think the worst thing has happened to you, it hasn’t happened to you. You still have things you can do.” Parkinson's hasn't slowed him down - he still plays tennis and boxes. He has incorporated his own battle with Parkinson's into his recent movies such as "A Marriage Story". The American Parkinson Disease Association is a treasure trove of information and resources about Parkinsons.

Here is a delightful short video about "why we love Alan" created by AARP.
